I just last night finished the Epic Dark Tower series by Stephen King; seven books all hugely long - one ginormous questing tale (though now I hear he's adding another book that fits into the middle). The ending was great, and I won't spoil it - though some were reportedly disappointed, I understand why the author ended it thusly and it does fit with the main chracter and overall tone of the series. Recently LOST ended and some people were disappointed with how that television series wrapped up.  Same thing with SyFy's Battlestar Galactica.
